Full, partial or fragile-only packing

Packing a home yourself starts as a plan and ends as a scramble. The boxes never turn up on time, the kitchen alone eats a whole day, and by Sunday night the bedroom is still untouched. Booking a packing service takes that off you. There are three ways to do it.

Full packing

We pack the whole property, from the loft to the last drawer.

This is for busy households, seniors, or anyone who wants to hand the job over and turn up on moving day to a boxed home. Fragile items are wrapped, furniture is covered, and every box is labelled by destination room.

Partial packing

You pack what you want, and we pack the rest.

Most people ask us to do the kitchen, the wardrobes and the study, because those are the rooms that eat the most time. It keeps costs down while taking the hardest work off your shoulders.

Fragile-only

For crockery, glassware, artwork, electronics and anything you would not want to wrap in a hurry.

Fragile-only is what most people actually need. If your clothes and books can go in a suitcase or a bin bag, this is often the smartest option.

For business moves, we also handle office moves with crates and labelling so your team is set up in the new space quickly.

Packing time by home size

One reason packing yourself takes so long is that it takes longer than you think. Here is a rough guide to how long two of our packers take by property size.

Where the time goes. The kitchen and the books eat the most of it. Every plate and every glass gets wrapped one by one, and a family bookshelf can be hundreds of items on its own. A single person doing it alone is usually a full weekend at minimum, and often more.

Typical time for two GT Removals packers, by property size.
Property size Packing time
Studio to 1-bed flat 2 to 4 hours
2-bed home 3 to 5 hours
3-bed home 5 to 8 hours
4-bed home 8 to 12 hours
5-bed home 10 to 14 hours

Packing costs and what drives them

Packing in London is charged by the hour, per packer. Across the sector, rates range from around £30 to £60 an hour for one packer. Our packing sits inside that range, and we quote it upfront with your removal, so you know the total before you book.

What your price depends on

  • The size of the property
  • How much stuff there is
  • Whether you want full, partial or fragile-only packing
  • How many fragile items need special wrapping
  • Whether you want us to unpack too

Our removal rates

  • £50 an hour Transit van and crew
  • £75 an hour Luton van and crew
  • 1 hour Minimum charge on both

Packing is quoted with your move, so you get one total. You can see all our removal rates for the full list.

Materials are included in the price we quote you. No boxes on top, no bubble wrap on top, no tape on top. Some companies charge those separately. We do not. You can also book it with your house removal so one crew handles the whole day.

Materials, care and insurance

Professional packing specialist organising household belongings into sturdy removal boxes

What we bring. Sturdy double-walled boxes in a few sizes, bubble wrap, clear film wrap, vinyl tape, packing paper, and covers for mattresses and sofas. All of it is included in the quote, and fragile items are wrapped and cushioned one by one.

Plain paper, not newspaper. Newspaper transfers ink onto crockery and books, so we use plain packing paper instead.

Small boxes for books. A full-size box of books becomes too heavy to lift safely, which is why book boxes are kept small on purpose.

Labelled by destination room. Every box is marked with the room it belongs in, so at the other end each one lands where it should. That single detail saves hours on unpacking day.

Insured from the first wrap. Every move is fully insured, with goods in transit cover, from the moment we start wrapping to the moment the last box is off the van.

Questions we get asked about packing

The things people ask us most before booking a packing service in London.

Still not sure? Call 020 3983 5849

Do you supply the boxes and packing materials?

Yes. Sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, clear film, tape and packing paper are all included in the quote. Some companies charge these on top. We do not.

Can you just pack the fragile things?

Yes. Fragile-only packing covers your crockery, glassware, artwork and electronics. It is often what most people actually need, and it keeps the cost down.

Do you pack the day before, or on moving day?

Both are possible. For larger homes we often pack the day before so everything is boxed and labelled ready for a clean loading run. Smaller moves can be packed and loaded in the same day.

What will you not pack?

We will not pack cash, jewellery, important documents, medication, perishable food, or anything hazardous. These are things you should carry yourself.

Do you unpack at the other end too?

Yes. We can unpack into destination rooms and take the used materials away with us. Just ask when you book.

How far ahead should I book?

One to two weeks of notice is ideal, especially in summer and around month-ends. Short-notice packing is often possible, so it is worth asking.

How much does a packing service in London cost?

Sector rates in London are roughly £30 to £60 an hour per packer. We quote our packing upfront when we quote your removal. The final price depends on the property size, how much you are moving, whether it is full, partial or fragile-only packing, and whether you want unpacking too. Materials are included.

How to keep packing day short

The packing days that overrun are almost always the ones where the house is not ready for us. A few small things make a big difference.

  • Clear the room where the boxes will land, so we are not stacking around furniture.
  • Empty and switch off the fridge and freezer 24 hours ahead so they defrost dry.
  • Decide the destination rooms upfront, because that is what goes on the labels.
  • Keep the friendly helpers to a minimum, because they usually slow the crew down more than they help.

Book your packing today and we will handle the rest.
