A practical point follows from that. Plan the vehicle before you unplug the appliance. If the van is too low to carry the fridge freezer upright, you have already made the job harder before lifting starts.
Side transport needs a proper wait
Side transport is a fallback, not the plan. If a fridge or freezer has to be laid on its side, Bosch UK says it should stand upright for at least 3 hours before being plugged in and switched on. If it was left on its side for more than a day, Bosch says it should stand for 24 hours before being plugged in.
Back transport is different. Bosch UK says not to transport or lay a fridge or freezer on its back, because parts can be damaged even when the damage is not visible. If your appliance has to go on its side, Bosch also says the process tubes should be on the upper side. Process tubes are small service pipes linked to the cooling system, and your manual is the place to check the right side for your model.
